How To Get Meals

Eligibility

Meals on Wheels clients vary in age, physical condition, and ability to pay for the service. A person’s ability to pay the full cost of Meals on Wheels service has no bearing on eligibility for service.

Clients should:

  • Reside in Arlington County, VA
  • Be homebound or incapable of procuring or preparing meals for themselves
  • Not have substantial assistance present in the home on a regular basis
  • Not reside in a facility that offers congregate food service

Call the Arlington County Agency on Aging at 703-228-1700 to request service or make a referral. Family members, caregivers, friends and medical professionals can make referrals if the recipient is unable to do so for themselves. Be prepared to provide the name, address, phone number, and date of birth of the recipient.

Costs

We expect each client to pay an amount toward the cost of service. Discounts are possible depending on the client’s ability to pay. The amount varies from full cost to a nominal amount.

For clients with adequate income, the cost is what Meals on Wheels pays for the food: $61/week.

For other clients, a social worker determines an amount. The amount is based on what the client can afford. The balance is subsidized by Virginia State and/or Meals on Wheels funds
